“Little Bulgaria” center is located in the heart of the suburb of Des Plaines, 18 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 5 miles north of O’Hare Airport.
The building was purchased in 2019 by “Little Bulgarian School in Chicago” thanks to the joint fundraising efforts and the repair work of hundreds of volunteers.
As of today, it has gained special popularity among the Bulgarian community in the greater Chicago area.
The convenient location and upgraded equipment make it an attractive place for sports competitions, concerts, meetings with celebrities and public figures, theatrical productions, children’s and family celebrations.
The cozy classrooms, the elegant hall “The Gallery”, a professionally equipped stage, and a beautiful library complement the feeling of magnetism and intimacy.
THE BUILDING – A GEM IN THE HEART OF DES PLAINES
The beautiful monumental building designed by German architects in the 1930s attracts the attention of passers-by with its dignity.
It has 11 classrooms, a multifunctional gym for sports, theatrical performances, and concerts, a dance studio, an art gallery and a party room.
The Center is a permanent home of:
– “Little Bulgarian School”;
– “Aleko Konstantinov” School;
– BG-Folk Club “Verea”, which trains the children from the folklore groups of the school, as well as clubs for adults;
– School’s TV studio – “Ishleme TV”;

– “Sly Peter” Theater;
– The Association of Bulgarian Professionals (bgprofessionals.org).
The gym hosts volleyball training and competitions for different age groups, led by the Bulgarian Volleyball Academy, various basketball clubs, rhythmic gymnastics, as well as soccer practices and games of soccer club FC Legion.
Truly unique with its design is the classroom dedicated to the lifestyle of Bulgarians and folk arts of the past century. Bright and spacious, it is colored by Bulgarian costumes, motifs and embroideries.
